The subtle mind

The subtle mind compared to the loving-kindness exercise, well the loving-kindness exercise did not go so well for me. But the subtle mind exercise went very well, yes my mind drifted a many times but I was able to bring it back quickly. I felt relaxed and actually feel like I may be able to get to a point where I can control my mind with just my breathing. It will take awhile and much practice as I am an over-thinker big time but I very much want to master this. When I do achieve this I know I will sleep so much better, over-thinking is really a big problem and causes insomnia. Sleeping better will reduce so many physical problems that I have such as headaches, fatigue and no energy, so accomplishing the subtle mind would be very beneficial to me spiritually, mentally and physically and I cannot wait to get there!! I hope that we can all reach this level as the benefits will be great!! Good luck all.

  1. I think the subtle mind exercise was more difficult for me. My mind races and can often get away from me. I agree that more practice will help quiet this chatter. Glad to know it was better for you than the loving-kindness exercise. Keep at it!

  2. Hi Jennifer,

I also struggle with the mental chatter and racing thoughts, it often creates distractions throughout the day and on many occassions interferes with my ability to sleep. I am hoping that with practice, I will be able to help reduce my stress by having a calm mind throughout the day.

    Good luck to you!

  4. Mrs. Bell, I too am an over thinker, I have been one since I was very young. When I was little I would have racing thoughts and find it hard to go to sleep. My mother recognized this and told me to imagine that I was in front of a chalk board and write out my ABC's. It is a habit that I continue to this day, and I even do big case, little case, cursive and normal. It has always helped me a lot, good post, I really enjoyed your blog.

I hope you have a good day.

  5. Howdy! I love your background page! Over thinking is a huge problem for me too. When I go to bed at night that is what my mind tends to do. Helpful hint is to just day dream of something fun. It always seems to help me.

  6. Love your post and can definitely relate to it! That "overthinking" gets me every time...especially when I'm trying to sleep. I do think that the subtle mind exercises and theory will help me with that. I love that you stated that you are "determined to master it!". With that attitude, there is no doubt that you will succeed!!!! Best of luck to you! Kara:)
